This weeks Fly Shop Friday goes to the Troutwater Fly Shop, out of Cle Elum, WA. A shop that pretty much gets a stop by every time we roll East to fish Desert creeks, Summer Steelhead, Carp lakes or any of the other countless opportunities throughout Eastern Washington.

ShootingHead loves fly shops. So yup, we’re starting a new category. Somewhat along the lines of the Slumpbuster, and Fishy Weirdness… It will be posted on a semi regular basis. Probably every other Friday, I’m thinking.
This week’s showcase is the Big R Fly shop. Which some of you may recognize, is a part of the Big R Farm Stores, that have multiple locations through out Washington, Idaho and Montana. Currently Big R has two fly shop locations open in Great Falls, MT and in Ponderay, ID with a new location opening shortly in Omak, WA.
If you hunt, or fish around the Northwest you’ve most likely heard of Calvin Fuller, of Sandpoint Outfitters who is currently at the Big R Fly Shop’s Ponderay location, lending years of destination & local knowledge to it’s patrons.
A message from one of the Great Falls Partners
Big R Fly Shop… As an outsider I was honestly skeptical. As an insider, I am impressed. If you want to make Mullet patterns, we have E.P Fibers. If you want to put a mini fly rod in your child’s hands, we have that too. It has always been important to Sam to have what fly fisher people need available to them. He gives us as employees the ability to cater to our clients needs. We want to make sure everyone here feels welcome, while providing the veterans of our sport with expertise. Egos are hard to come by in the shop. We know we can, and do learn something new about fly fishing every day. If you are looking to walk into the door of a shop where you will be greeted with a stare or raised eyebrow, you will be disappointed. The fact is that the people who work in Big R fly shop all come from different places, and we all have knowledge about our passions. Many of us learned how to fish on our own, and spent many of days in Montana doing it. I feel like fishing for eight years in this state has given me the ability to catch fish, but I know I have not even scratched the surface. What matters to us is that we have fun on the water, and with the people which surround it. Big R is here to help you get your hands on what you to get the job done, and the Fly Shop is here to help you do the same thing. We like to chat, drink coffee, and are always looking to blend our uniqueness with ideas from you to enhance your fishing experience.
Check out their Website and The Bug Blog, and if you happen to find yourself in the area of any of the Big R locations it’s definitely worth a stop.
